My Favorite Harley Riding Road
I am so fortunate to live in Palm Desert, California. We lived in Los Angeles for fifteen years and just had enough of the traffic. It literally took me an hour to drive 12 miles from West Los Angeles to Downtown Los Angeles every day to work. Here in Palm Desert we can jump on the motorcycle and have a nice ride immediately either going up the 74 California Highway through the mountains to either Idyllwild, Hemet, Temecula, East San Diego or back down to the Coachella Valley on the Pines to Palms Scenic route. This video I took on the way home from just a quick ride to Cahuilla Casino Hotel that is off Highway 271 Highway in Anza. You can keep riding down California Highway 74 past the 271 Highway turnoff and either continue on to Idywilld and the fabulous San Bernardino National Forest Palms to Pine Scenic Byway and end up in Morongo Valley and stop at the Morongo Casino and Hotel Resort. The other alternative is to keep going on the 74 Highway all the way down to Hemet. More twisty and turning curvy roads back down the mountain that way too. Endless ways to ride on this route 74 and I highly recommend checking every road around there out!
It is only 30 miles from our home yet due to the curvy road it takes about one hour each way. If you want twisty adventurous roads to ride California Highway 74 is perfect for you.
Just remember the altitude is around 4000 feet so check the weather before riding. We have ridden that road when it was icy which was a little scary. I am grateful my husband is a very experienced motorcycle rider of 50 years in times like those. In the summertime, it is the best escape from the desert’s heat of over 100 degrees. Idyllwild, Lake Hemet, Anza Valey, and Borrego Springs are all around 80 degrees when it’s too hot to ride in the desert. Is it ever too hot to ride? It depends on how passionate or crazy you may be about riding your motorcycle. It only takes fifteen minutes to get out of the 100 degrees weather from our house up California Highway 74. Thank God!
